Is the straw-like color in patches, or is it uniformly brown? If it's more uniform, your grass is likely suffering from lack of water or hot weather. If it's defined patches, it is a disease or lawn pest (chinch bugs or grubs are active this time of year). If you can send a picture, we'd be happy to help diagnose the problem, or you can give Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer a try.

Both liquid concentrate versions cover a little more than 5,000 sq ft. The 10 lb granule bag covers 12,500 sq ft. The liquids and concentrates control grubs and sod webworms equally, but the liquids have an 8 week residual against nuisance pests.

The use rate per gallon of water should be 1.5 fl oz (or 6 Tbsp). Without knowing what sprayer you have and how big the jar is, it's difficult to tell you what the setting should be, but there should be a fl oz or Tbsp setting on the jar to figure it out easily. Please follow the directions that came with your sprayer.

Question

Is Triazicide systemic?

I need an insect killer that I can spray on the lower branches of my trees (they are very high trees) and it will be absorbed through the tree's leaves and be spread to the whole tree (even the top branches). As I cannot reach the tops with spray, I need something systemic that will treat the whole tree.

No, it is not a systemic insecticide. You will need to treat all infested plant parts. Would a hose-end sprayer do the trick?

Question

What is the residual acting time with the concentrate used at the 6 oz per 1000 sq ft dosage?

I sprayed a heavily tick infested area on Friday at the 6oz per 1000 sq ft dosage. It seemed to knock the ticks out fairly well. I went back down to check on Monday morning and although I did not get mobbed by the ticks there were fleas in evidence where there hadn't been any to this point. There had been no rain during the weekend. Wlii the concentrate get the fleas or will I have to retreat?
There are no animals in this area.
Thanks
Chris

We're glad it took care of the ticks. The residual on fleas will likely be shorter than two months. If you still see fleas after treating on Friday, you probably need to treat again (up to 14 times per year).

Question

How do I get rid of ants in my heliconia potted plants.

I have potted my heliconia plants in 10 gallon pots for those special exotic species. I live in south florida. Ants have infested the potting mix within 3 weeks of potting. Can I drench the mix with 3 tbsp/gal solution or will this concentrate harm the plants? Obviously, I will have to place the pots on landscaping fabric in the future.

The granules are just designed for lawn treatment, and they won't control scorpions. We recommend the concentrate version (http://www.spectracide.com/Products...). Just keep your dog out of the treated area until the gravel is completely dry.

If you look within the use location directions on the label, you'll see the specific bugs listed out. Chinch bugs and grubs are both listed under "Lawns," then within "Underground Insects/Thatch-Infesting Insects." You'll mix 1.5 fl oz (3 Tbsp) in one gallon of water for each 120 sq ft of lawn you treat.
