If you're spraying Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns (blue bottle), you'll need to wait three weeks before seeding. For our Weed Stop formula for crabgrass (green bottle), you'll need to wait four weeks. If you're using the St. Augustine formula (purple bottle), you'll need to wait six months.

You should wait at least 10 weeks after using the granules before overseeding (because this is a crabgrass preventer, the wait is longer than some of our other products). You could overseed first, then you'd need to wait until you've had to mow the newly seeded area at least three times before applying the granules. The waiting time is shorter if you use Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns Plus Crabgrass Killer liquid formulas -- you need to wait to seed four weeks after application.

Question

Granules vs. Liquid Application

The Weed Stop for Lawns Granules says on the bag that it will last up to 5 months, however I don't see anywhere on the liquid version that says it will last the same. My question is what is the difference between the two applications. Does one have a residual that continues to work after application and the second part is which is the most recommended?

Thanks

Right, the granular product offers up to 5 months of residual control against lawn weeds listed; the liquid formula will not give residual results but you will see weed kill more quickly.

It won't control variegated liriope. Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns Crabgrass Preventer Plus Broadleaf Weed Killer will prevent crabgrass from germinating but needs to be applied to actively growing broadleaf weeds to achieve control. If you're looking to clear out a tilled area for planting, we recommend Spectracide Weed & Grass Killer, which will kill everything you spray (http://www.spectracide.com/Products...)

Question

Please update packaging information

As per the package, I set my Scotts Turf Builder Edge Guard to level 6 to apply this product. It applied what seems like three times as much product as it was supposed to. Very disappointed. Was I supposed to instinctively know that the directions were wrong? Was I supposed to know what applying a given amount to a surface should look like. Hope this doesn't kill the little grass I do have.

You should not use this product on floratam St. Augustinegrass, colonial bentgrass, dichondra, carpetgrass or seedling buffalograss. There are no other restrictions, however. We do make a Weed Stop spray product specifically for use on St. Augustinegrass: http://www.spectracide.com/Products...

Early spring (right now) is the perfect time to apply. For best control where you live, make a second application six to eight weeks after the first. Please note the grass variety restrictions for this product (you should not apply on "Floratam" St. Augustinegrass, for example).

If it's very hot where you are, you might want to give it a month or so. Applying the granules to grass that has been weakened by drought might increase the chance of damage to your lawn.

Question

How much concentrate should be added to the 'ready to use' hose end bottle to refill it?

I purchased a bottle of Spectracide concentrate to refill my empty ready-to-use hose-end spray bottle. I learned the hard way that I can't simply pour the concentrate into the bottle and use it - it did a number on my lawn. There are no dilution guidelines on the concentrate instructions for refilling the Spectracide ready-to-use bottles. How much concentrate should I use to get the same dilution that comes in those bottles?

When to reseed?

I plan on using this product for multiple types of broad leaf weeds in my lawn. There are also some bare spots that I would like to reseed. Can I do both this fall? How long should I wait to reseed after using this product? For scheduling reasons I may reseed first. If I reseed first, how long should I wait to use this product? Thanks.

You should wait at least 10 weeks after using the granules before overseeding. If you reseed first, you should wait until you've had to mow the newly seeded area at least three times before applying the granules. We would wait until temperatures cool down a little, then apply the granules and follow up with seeding 10 weeks later.

The package says the lawn needs to be wet when its applied. I sprinkled mine for a couple of minutes before putting the Spectracide down and had zero problems. If you are worried about heat, put it out at night around sunset so it will have a chance to "soak in" all night long.

Actually, you should water the grass before applying because this product needs to stick to weed leaves for maximum efficacy. You should avoid applying when rain is forecast within 24 hours of application, though, because you don't want it to wash off. There are no temperature restrictions, but you should not apply the granules under drought conditions.
